I seriously had dreams about making these jeans, people.
Hmmmm…if I could just find a way for all of my projects to magically be sewn in my sleep. But I guess there’s not much fun in that.
They are a modern, high waisted, flared jean and are really truly so flattering.
I haven’t worn high waisted in a few years and so the first day I tried them on I thought maybe they were too high on me, but then I realized they hit at the perfect spot! They fit at the smallest part of my waist and really have a slimming effect on my lower stomach
I had a couple sweaters that I had not worn because they looked too small with my low waisted jeans but when I tried them on with these they actually looked great.
I made mine with Conemills Denim from threadbarefabric.com and it has a perfect 2% elastic stretch with great recovery. I have been wearing them all week and they have not gotten baggy like my jeans normally do. Ignore the few wrinkles…I really have been wearing them all week.
I have made jeans before, but only just within the last couple months and mainly because I am trying to sew things that I thought you “couldn’t make homemade”. Lots of women in the tester group however had never sewn jeans and they still turned out great! The pattern is very straight forward, and does not assume that the sewist has made jeans before, so Lauren’s instructions are very clear. Another thing I really liked is that her pattern sizing has layers. I had never used a pattern with that feature before and I found it super helpful. I needed to grade between multiple sizes because I have smaller hips so I turned on the layers for sizes 31-29. This allowed the lines for those sizes to show up and everything else disappear.
Lauren’s pattern releases today and she is offering $2 off the pattern with the coupon code, birkinrelease. Her other patterns are also 50% off which would make a great Christmas gift for any friend that loves to sew including the foxglove tank which I used to make this shirt in the spring
Her instructions are very thorough and clear, so if you have been wanting to try making your own jeans this is a really great place to start. And my last but favorite thing to add, they are super comfortable and help me to feel good doing what I do best.
